Embarking on the CTA Journey: A Tale of Dreams, Challenges, and Perseverance- ROBEN KOFU

Enrolling in the CTA July 2023 Full-Time class was a dream come true. Apart from being born in the month of August, I came to realize that A.U.G.U.S.T may mean Ask Until God Unveils Something Tangible. Spending time in class and the library was truly an insurmountable task, coming from the industry and work environment. Adjusting to a new normal was not easy. The desire to become a Chartered Accountant kept giving me strength, but of course, the first step was completing the CTA.

The Chartered Accountants Academy Client Services and Registrar’s office complemented my dream through welcoming and assisting me to settle down. My CTA journey started with a diagnostic test which almost shattered my dream as it made me think that the end goal was unattainable. The technical team managed to uplift my spirit through class lectures and consultations. I worked very hard to master the art of CTA. Spending long hours in the library after lessons became my new lifestyle. I really cherish the library facility that is open daily until midnight throughout the seven days of the week. Every day, I would start with lesson planning, by going through videos and modules uploaded on the portal which assist students to pre-read before lectures.

The introduction of the Mentorship program in our final semester was a well-thought-out decision by the technical team. I was allocated to Mr. Tungamirai CA (Z) a.k.a Boss Tunga, along with five other students. We would meet twice a week in the afternoon after classes and go through shared scenarios. Working with Boss Tunga was exceptional. We were taught scenario analysis, problem-solving, and formulation of solution points which earned marks. The program increased my confidence that CTA was attainable. The level of student support from the whole technical team contributed a lot and guaranteed my success.

Passing and becoming a CTA holder was a significant step towards my end goal. The journey cannot be complete without mentioning my study group members; Freedom Ruso, Tatenda ‘Mai Nhanha’ Gwatidzo, Kudzai Claver, Sharon Rusike, Netsai Sambaza and Tinotenda Wonder Pritchard Njani. Equipped with a CTA qualification, I can successfully tackle and provide technical solutions to problems faced in the industry.

I would like to give credit to the following individuals for imparting valuable knowledge during my CTA journey; Boss Elliot Wonenyika, Mkoma Zvikomborero, Munashe mkoma vemabhemba, Tariro ‘TM’ Mandeya, Rutendo Taruvinga, Madam Felicity, Trust, Mr. Zvino Mapetere, Takudzwa Mutasa, Timothy, and my fellow classmates led by class rep Lewis Takunda. You were fantastic, guys.

My greatest honour goes to the ever-smiling Registrar Brenda ‘Auntie vecollege’ Zimbowora, who was so inspirational throughout my journey. Your ability to accommodate each student who seeks your guidance is amazing. Whenever I was low or burning, you were always a call away. Thank you so much, Tete.
