I was born and bred in Masvingo, where words like “Chartered Accountant” were more like ghosts that everyone talked about but had never seen. I dreamt of becoming this ghost in my city however, the financial resources to do so were not permitting.
My big breakthrough came in 2018 when CAA introduced the CTA Bursary, for which I was a pioneer along with four other students. The bursary really helped me a lot as it provided all the learning materials needed for me to complete the program and offered direct mentorship from the CAA team to guide me on the path to completing the studies.
In addition to the bursary, we held meetings with Anesu Daka after each test to review our results, identify areas for improvement, and strategize on how to enhance them. These meetings were challenging, as we needed to demonstrate consistent progress from one test to another. However, they were instrumental in helping me pass my CTA on the first attempt, as I was determined not to let down CAA and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they had awarded me.
After passing my CTA in December 2018, I faced financial challenges in paying for the ITC exams, and CAA came through and paid for the board course and the ITC exam fee to assist me on the path of becoming a Chartered Accountant. CAA also assisted in getting me interviews for Articles of Clerkship from which I qualified to be a Chartered Accountant with one of the Big Four Firms.
I feel honoured and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the CAA Bursary as it helped me to fulfil my dream to be a Chartered Accountant Zimbabwe and changed my life completely.
